Near the free-throw line he spins, fakes, then lunges forward and flips the ball over a defender into the basket–a play that helps ensure a victory for his team, William Carey College, over the University of Mobile.

That speed, that maneuverability, that abandon bordering on recklessness, all performed by an improbable body, evokes memories of another ballplayer with the same style–“Pistol” Pete Maravich.

Except this is Jaeson Maravich, his 6-foot-5-inch son, with the clear genes of the father and of a mind to emulate him as much as he can. He is not exactly the spitting image of his famous dad, but the resemblance is close enough. And just like his father, he wants to play in the NBA.
