    John McNicholl was born and raised in a small village called Foreglen in Derry in the north of Ireland. He is one of 15 children born to Colm and Mary. John's first taste of stage performance began when he was a young boy in his local school. Amateur musicals and plays gave John an opportunity to showcase his early talents for singing and acting and these were noted by many of his tutors. Soon John was being offered more prominent parts in these productions including some lead roles. Later John would join the Foreglen Folk Choirband.

    In his teenage years John worked hard in school and grew up listening to great country artists from both America and Ireland. Singers and songwriters for whom John has the greatest respect include country stars such as Vince Gill, Dolly Parton, George Jones, Keith Urban & Leanne Womack. From a young age John would go to see all the big country stars in the Castle Ballroom in Dungiven near his home town. John took a very different path a few years ago deciding he would become a chef. He achieved a promising status in this new career but his hunger to get on the road and perform some of his most loved songs was too great to shy away from.

    McNicholl's first album, Something Old, Something New was released in 2004 and earned him the "Best Newcomer" award at the Irish World Awards.[1] He also represented Ireland at the CMA Global Showcase in Nashville. Since then, he has gone on to record a number of albums each earning him a following in both Ireland and the United Kingdom.[2]
